Participating in Thai Cooking class is a very interesting activity which can bring you unforgettable experiences. If you get the opportunity to travel to Chiang Mai, don’t miss these cooking schools below.
May Kaidee’s cooking school
May Kaidee’s Cooking School is run by a famous Thai chef and specialises in vegetarian and vegan dishes. The original cooking school started in Bangkok in 1988 and runs simultaneous courses in Chiang Mai and Bangkok daily. May Kaidee’s runs two classes a day which includes an introduction and small talk about how to make chilli paste and the use of Thai herbs and spices. Then participants learn how to cook 8 different recipes and taste their dishes. After cooking and eating participants will then get to see a traditional Thai dancing show and are served complimentary mango and sticky rice dessert. The morning and afternoon classes vary slightly with an introduction to raw food desserts in the morning and a focus on cold recipes such as salads in the afternoon.
Sammy’s Organic Thai Cooking School
Sammy’s Organic Thai Cooking School takes place on Sammy’s organic farm about 20 minutes away from Chiang Mai. The school is set in a beautiful location and is a great way to get out of the city and see more of Thailand’s countryside. Sammy starts by taking participants to a local Thai market to buy ingredients and has in depth knowledge about different herbs, types of rice and coconut milk. This is a good chance to ask about Thai spices and ingredients. Once at Sammy’s Organic Thai Cooking School you can choose five different dishes to make (including spring rolls, mango and sticky rice and a choice of curries) and then Sammy will demonstrate and help you cook your own dishes. There is fresh fruit available if you start to feel hungry and at the end of the class you get to feast on what you cooked.
Asia Scenic Thai Cooking School
Asia Scenic Thai Cooking School is a popular and friendly cooking course that teaches participants to cook a range of self-chosen Thai dishes. With two locations (one in the heart of the city and the other located at a farm a little outside of Chiang Mai) this cooking school has a course suitable for everyone. No cooking skill is needed and the friendly instructors ensure that everyone makes a delicious and presentable dish. Participants can choose to cook up to 7 dishes on the full day course and Asia Scenic Thai Cooking School also arranges a trip to a local Thai vegetable market to buy the ingredients.
Thai Farm Cooking School
Thai Farm Cooking School is run by a passionate chef and farmer, Sawat, who is excited to share his knowledge with participants. Opened in 2000 Sawat has been working on his farm to create a food paradise. During the course he often picks fresh fruits in season for participants to try such as mango, jackfruit or star fruit, and he grows most of the herbs for cooking himself. Participants can choose 6 different dishes from the menu including curry, a dessert and a Thai soup. This is a great introduction to Thai cooking.
